Donors who choose to invest in academic excellence at William Jewell College may establish the following endowments. Their generosity enhances student experiences by supporting the faculty member’s salary, benefits and research. Educators in endowed positions use the funds to develop new curriculum, conduct pioneering research, support professional travel funds, purchase equipment and supplies, cultivate one-on-one relationships with students and foster collaborative projects with other professors. These proven practices transcend the traditional classroom experience, regardless of the decade or century.
Endowed Scholarship ($25,000) A donor may establish a named scholarship by fulfilling a $25,000 pledge within four years of the first payment. The fund is named when the balance reaches $25,000. The donor(s) will set criteria for the award and will receive annual updates from the recipient. A student on a scholarship funded at this level would receive $1,000 annually. This amount increases as the balance of the endowed scholarship increases.
Endowed Professorship ($1 million +) A donor may establish an endowed professorship with a gift of $1 million. The gift will support all or part of the salary. This gift will supports a portion the annual salary and benefits of the of a full-time faculty member. Professorships generally support the work of tenured or tenure track positions already established at the College. Recognition of the donor and the intent to endow a faculty position will be given upon entering an agreement to provide funding. The chair will be appointed upon completion of the gift. Should an irrevocable gift be established through an estate plan, the amount required to fund the chair will be determined based on projected costs to fill the chair at the time the gift is likely to be realized.
Endowed Faculty Chair ($2 million +) A donor may establish an endowed faculty chair with a gift of $2 million. The gift will support salary and benefits of the faculty member as well as provide professional development funds to support the goals of the department.
Endowed Department (varies) The amount of endowment required to fund expenses associated with a particular department varies greatly and, therefore, so do the funding levels. An endowed department will forever carry the name of the donor or donor’s designee. Opportunities to provide endowments for programs or departments start at $4 million.
