The foundation of philanthropic giving to William Jewell College is the annual fund, referred to as the Jewell Fund. A contribution to the Jewell Fund has always meant an investment in creating an outstanding College experience for students. Gifts to the Jewell Fund play a critical role in the finances of the College, providing unrestricted operating support that augments tuition revenue.

The Jewell Fund is where most alumni show their tangible, annual support by allowing the College to respond to areas of greatest need. A thriving and prosperous Jewell Fund can positively impact the College beyond what tuition revenue can provide. The Jewell Fund is what connects us as a Jewell family while also helping us fulfill our promise to students.

Examples of how a healthy Jewell Fund can impact the College include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Extends the reach of scholarship support to guarantee that our student body defines itself by potential, not economics.
  • Makes it possible to attract the best faculty-mentors to ensure Jewell offers a rigorous, nationally renowned liberal arts education.
  • Provides support for programming and student activities that develops leaders, enhances social skills, and enriches faith in preparation for life after College.
  • Maintains and updates technology to equip students with the tools necessary for future success.
  • Enhances academic curriculum and resources available to faculty and students.
  • Updates resources available to students in the College library.
  • Enhances the campus aesthetic.
  • Improves College rankings by providing an important vehicle through which we show increases in the annual alumni giving percentage.

The Circle of 1849

Named for the year of William Jewell College’s founding, the Circle of 1849 is the College’s premier annual giving society. Circle of 1849 members are as significant to William Jewell’s future as that landmark date is to the College’s rich history.

The Circle of 1849 recognizes alumni, parents, and friends who play a leadership role in supporting William Jewell College with unrestricted gifts to the Jewell Fund of $1,000 and more each year. Circle of 1849 members provide a powerful and flexible source of funding for the President and Trustees to enhance student financial aid, build innovative academic programs, recruit and retain exceptional faculty and much more.

All donors to William Jewell College gain membership in one of the following giving clubs based on the total amount of their charitable gift (regardless of designation) during a given fiscal year (July 1 through June 30).
