|2009 Human Family Reunion
May 1 Reunion of Ed Chasteen’s Students – Yates-Gill College Union – 7:00 p.m.
May 2 Human Family Reunion – Downtown KC – 10:30 a.m. Community Gathering | 12:00 p.m. Lunch
The first Human Family Reunion was held in May 1976 on the President’s lawn at William Jewell College. For 33 years the Human Family Reunion has been an event where Jewell students and community members came together for an evening with the sole (soul) purpose being to endorse our differences and celebrate our common humanity.
This spring, the Center for Justice and Sustainability of William Jewell College joins with HateBusters to sponsor a special 2009 Human Family Reunion. On Friday evening, May 1, former students of Dr. Ed Chasteen will meet in the newly renovated Yates-Gill College Union to share memories and to hear Ed speak about all the HFR has meant and will forever mean. The Human Family Reunion will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, in Washington Park in Kansas City. The Saturday gathering is a time to meet and greet many folks of all colors, cultures and creeds.
Dr. Ed Chasteen says, “I’m inviting all my former students to come back to campus for this grand reunion. I’m also inviting all the folks from Greater Kansas City who helped me teach by sharing their lives with you. Nothing could ever please me more than to have you come for our evening gathering in Yates-Gill College Union and for our Picnic in Washington Park in Kansas City.”
Alumni who had classes with Dr. Chasteen or were HateBusters while on campus are invited to submit email recollections of their time as student HateBusters. Ed asks, “Tell me when you were here, what class you were in, the identity you assumed, what you remember about the class. Tell me what you remember about the Human Family Reunion, and/or HateBusters.” Send your recollections to HateBuster@aol.com. Ed will take what you email and make a book about the time together.
If you plan on attending one or both of the reunion events or would like more information, please send an email to Dr. Andy Pratt (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your name, class, and contact information.
