Alumni Giving Trend
Each year, organizations such as the U.S. News & World Report rank the College on several different factors. The lone indicator they use to measure alumni satisfaction is the annual alumni giving percentage.
U.S. News & World Report ranks Jewell in the National Liberal Arts category, which means this organization considers Jewell to be one of the top 250 small private liberal arts colleges in the nation. As these top 250 colleges and universities are ranked each year, Jewell has been consistently placed in the third tier of the rankings, which means that the College is considered anywhere from the 125th to the 185th best national liberal arts college.
When viewing results from colleges and universities ranked in the top 100, a common trend among these institutions is achieving an alumni giving percentage of 30 percent or higher year-after-year. On average, institutions ranked in the top 100 achieve an average alumni giving percentage of 35 percent.
In 2008-2009, Jewell achieved an alumni giving percentage of 20 percent. While this far exceeds the overall average of all colleges and universities —10 percent— it is well below the top 100 national liberal arts college average of 35 percent.
This provides a good benchmark for Jewell to aspire to as we work to improve the tangible evidence of alumni support.
