Homecoming 2015 Event Schedule

Friday, October 2

Back to Class with Dr. Chris Wilkins (no charge)
10 a.m.
Pryor Learning Commons, Room 112
Join Dr. Chris Wilkins, Professor of History, for his lecture "Fighting to Abolish Slavery in the 19th Century and the 21st: Lessons for the Changing World." Slavery represents one of the most significant challenges to human rights around the world in the early 21st Century. Scholars estimate that over 30 million people worldwide are victims of forced labor. Dr. Wilkins' lecture argues that present-day abolitionists working to end slavery can benefit from studying the strategies and ideas of 19th Century anti-slavery activitsts in Britain and the United States, and that helping Jewell students gain historical perspective on contemporary issues advances the college's mission of equipping our students to become leaders committed to creating a better world.
